Gender Sensitisation and
Awareness Training Programmes

While some of the sensitisation programmes organised are specific to some of the target groups we work with, as for instance trainings on a regular basis for concerned police, hospital, revenue, public prosecution officials to increase their effectiveness in handling cases of unnatural deaths of women, we are also invited as resource for and organise more holistic gender sensitisation programmes on the range of issues we work with. Such trainings are usually organised by or for students, women in the unorganised Sector as in the garment industry, teachers in private schools and colleges, Self Help Groups, Anganwadi women and Elected Women’s Representatives. Self Help Groups are those that have been formed as a result of the world bank aided micro credit polices that seek to empower women, particularly in the rural areas. Anganwadi women teachers and helpers are central to community life and institutions while Elected Women’s Representatives are the latest constituency drawn into the political process of governance. Our purpose in reaching out to these women is to initiate a process with them that enables them to challenge the economic, social and political frame they are given to work with.

Apart from the programmes that we organise, we share our experience, findings, observations, recommendations and suggestions with other women’s organisations, students, institutions, community organisations and academic institutions who invite us to participate in their programmes as resource persons and through our documentation.
